Four Years of the GLG Homepage

The GLG website I redesigned and developed is being retired this year, which feels like the right moment to look back on it. It went live in 2015, which means it served as the public face of the company for four years. In website years, that’s a long and healthy life.

The interesting constraint on this project was that the branding already existed. I wasn’t inventing a visual identity; I was translating one into a living site, page by page, from the homepage through careers. There’s a particular discipline to that kind of work. The design decisions aren’t about self-expression, they’re about consistency and craft in service of a brand that other people own.

Building something that lasts four years in production also teaches you things that launches don’t. Content changes, teams change, campaigns come and go, and the structure you chose either bends gracefully or it doesn’t.
